Rangaleni (Shela) (40 x 40 cm) 2015
Het dorp Shela bestaat uit dicht op elkaar gebouwde huizen met kleine steegjes. Het duurt even voor je er je weg vindt. De manier van bouwen geeft veel schaduw en prachtige doorkijkjes. Als je uren op een plek staat krijg je een beetje een indruk van het leven op straat. Het winkeltje waar ik naast sta heeft veel aanloop (en die mensen staan natuurlijk in mijn uitzicht), uit de school komen spreekkoren van kinderen; “a, e, i o u”. In de klassen is het permanent rumoerig. De hele kleintjes spelen met elkaar of kijken wat ik uitvoer. Een mooie twintigarige meid vraagt of ik haar wil schilderen. Ik heb voor haar een afspraak geregeld met Natalia Dik.
The village of Shela consists of compactly built houses with small alleys. It takes a while before you find your way. The method of building gives a lot of shade and beautiful views. If you spend hours in one place is you get a bit of an impression of life on the street. The shop where I am next to has many run up (and those people are, of course, in my view), from the school I hear chants of children; “a, e, i o u”. In the classes it is noisy all the time. The little ones are playing with each other or want to see what I am doing. A beautiful girl of about twenty years of age asks me if I want to paint her. I have arranged an appointment for her with Natalia Dik.
Ze willen allemaal zien wat ik doe en praten er uitgebreid over. Af en toe versta ik wat. Ze benoemen de kleuren in het Engels.
They all want to see what I’m doing and talk extensively about it. I occasionally understand something they say. They are naming the colors in English.
